Founded in 2008, Green Mowers began its life as an advocate for reel mower use in small, urban yards. See how we have evolved over the years:
Not only have we improved our design and layout, but we now delve into new topics, including electric mowers, gas mower maintenance, and even alternative lawns and lawn care.
Although we still advocate for green reel mower use, we argue it is better to maintain your current lawn mower than to buy a new setup right away, as the environmental cost of landfills and item production are of upmost concern.
Unfortunately, even the “greenest” mowers are not entirely green. Electric batteries are made with fossil fuels and recharged via the electric grid–most likely originating from coal. Reel mowers are made of steel, which also requires fossil fuels to produce.
No solution is perfect, meaning that creativity is key to making and maintaining an environmentally-friendly lawn.
